Origins
Sargent-Disc was founded by John and Marija Sargent in 1986 to provide payroll, accounting and software services to UK film productions. Sargent-Disc was also one of the first companies in the industry to offer computerised payroll services.
Revolutionising production accounting
Originally set up as an affiliate of US company DISC Inc, Sargent-Disc’s unique combination of Hollywood know-how and technical innovation revolutionised production accounting. MicroDisc soon became the industry-standard accounting software helped by real time support in Europe and the electronic interface from Sargent-Disc’s payroll.
Embracing innovation
An early adopter of the ‘Software as a Service’ (SAAS) model, Sargent-Disc continued to recognise and respond to the needs of clients for effective production management software.
Over time, one industry standard replaced another, with improved software and connectivity speeding up data entry and enabling cross-network collaboration on a truly global scale.
Pioneering online payroll
Sargent-Disc launched SD Online in 2005, the entertainment industry’s first online payroll gateway, which enabled sensitive payroll information to be transmitted securely and provided an interactive archive of records, accessible through a single user login and easy-to-use interface.
Cashless solutions
In 2011, Sargent-Disc launched the Production Card in association with Barclaycard, Europe’s leading issuer of Visa Commercial Cards. Initially developed to meet the needs of Paramount’s action blockbuster World War Z, the fully managed cashless purchasing solution revolutionised the buying process, providing a safe and secure alternative to the high-risk practice of handling large amounts of cash on a production.
